 Barbara Marx Hubbard, noted author, futurist & social architect, is dedicated to understanding and communicating humanity’s potentials for a positive future. She is a founding member of the World Future Society, the Society for the Universal Human and the co-founder of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution. Her books include “The Hunger of Eve, The Evolutionary Journey” and her latest book “Conscious Evolution: The Great Awakening-- A Spirit-Motivated Plan of Action for the 21st Century.”
Barbara is in the midst of an extraordinary life. The daughter of toy magnate Louis Marx, Barbara was raised in New York during its heyday. This included meeting some of the Twentieth Century’s most illustrious people, such as then President Dwight Eisenhower. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College, cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science, and studied at L’Ecole des Sciences Politique and the Sorbonne in Paris. In the 1960’s, after having raised 5 children, Barbara reignited a fire which had started in her teens: she was drawn to the lure of a positive future for the Earth and its people. Barbara wanted to understand the process of personal, social and planetary evolution.
In 1970, she co-founded the Committee for the Future in Washington, D.C. to bring positive options into the public arena for discussion and action. She also designed and co-produced twenty-five SYNCONS (synergistic convergences). These cutting edge interactive conferences brought together a wide range of people to focus on win-win solutions for social challenges. Shortly thereafter, she created the “Theatre for the Future” a multi-media presentation of the evolutionary story of creation with a vision of a long-range human future: what it might be like if everything works! Throughout the Seventies & Eighties, Barbara lectured, wrote, and appeared on national television, continuing to promote the idea of humans working together to create a world which works for everyone. She co-chaired and designed large Soviet-American Citizen summits, created a team-building process called “Rings of Empowerment”, and developed “Evolutionary Circles”, a small group process for inner work and spiritual growth which focuses on the basic ideas of conscious evolution and co-creation. In 1984, Barbara made history when her name was placed in nomination for the vice presidency of the United States.
Also in the Eighties, she hosted and co-executive produced this television series entitled “POTENTIALS”, featuring an outstanding array of guests including: Ray Bradbury, Lt. Col Jim Channon, ret., Norman Cousins, Marilyn Ferguson, Buckminster Fuller Ph.D., Willis Harman Ph.D., Brugh Joy M.D., Rev. James Lawson, Dr. Timothy Leary Ph.D., Toni and John Lilly M.D., Alexandra and Robin Morton, Jerry Pournelle Ph.D., Gene Roddenberry and Senator John Vasconcellos amongst prominent others. “POTENTIALS: Envisioning the New Millennium” is now available on home video.
Currently, Barbara and the Foundation for Conscious Evolution are developing a Co-Creation web site to identify and connect projects which are creating a sustainable and life-enhancing world.
